Next Benchmark On-Ice Testing Will Take Place On May 1, 2024 In Zurich

SISM Hockey has already tested more than 4,000 players in Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Austria and some players have already made it into the national teams. NHL done. We know what it takes to become a top player. Connor McDavid also took the Sport Testing On-Ice Test and is our top player in our unique database, which includes more than 150 young NHL players. The standardized benchmark on-ice test is a MUST for every young ice hockey player to become even better. We recommend taking the test in the spring and working on your weaknesses in the summer!

“Benchmark” On-Ice Testing – the best players in the test are also the best players in the game!”

The standardized on-ice test has been carried out periodically since 2010 in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) or the OHL, WHL and QMJHL. Due to transparency, various NHL organizations now use the same on-ice test. The big breakthrough and acceptance for such on-ice tests came in 2013, when the on-ice performance test was carried out for the first time at the Top 40 Prospects Combine. 36 of the CHL’s best players, who were drafted in the first or second round of the NHL entry draft in the summer, underwent the tests. Every year the on-ice test takes place one day before the Top Prospects Game. Since 2013, 42% of all tested players were first-round drafts, and 39% of tested players are already playing in the NHL.

Top picks like Nathan MacKinnon (2013), Aaron Eckblad (2014), Connor McDavid (2015) and Nico Hischier (2017) and other Swiss NHL cracks like Timo Meier, Mirco Müller, Philipp Kurashev etc. have completed the test. Since 2015, Sport-Tests (Switzerland) has been offering these tests, which are carried out by SISM Hockey. The on-ice test has already gained a foothold in Europe and Central Asia. So far, almost 3,000 players between the ages of 7 and 40 have been tested on-ice. In addition to renowned Swiss ice hockey clubs such as HC Davos, Fribourg-Gottéron, Rapperswil Lakers, EV Zug, EHC Kloten, SC Langenthal, EHC Visp and HC Thurgau, SISM Hockey has also tested foreign teams several times.

The clubs swear by the tests and their results, which are used to specifically build their teams for the new season. The best-known on-ice test customers also include the Russian U-16 national team, the KHL team from Barys Astana in Kazakhstan, as well as 350 junior players from the Barys Hockey Academy, the top European club Frölunda Gothenburg Sweden, with the two Swedish championship teams U- 16 as well as U-18 from 2019 and also the U-20. Three players from the U-20 were drafted last year. Since 2015, over 200 tests have been successfully carried out by SISM Hockey.

On-Ice Test A “Must” for every ice hockey player

The standardized on-ice test data shows the player where his hockey-specific skills are and reveals the strengths and weaknesses. The results are not only self-reflection for the players, but they can also be used to create targeted training plans to increasingly eliminate deficits. In this way, the players can make optimal and efficient use of the training time and select specifically offered camps in order to further develop their technical skills. The tests should be carried out twice a year to show the athletes and coaches the progress.

The on-ice test includes five disciplines with and five without the puck. The sprint qualities are tested over 30 meters in forward and backward skating, the 45 meter reaction test correlates with game intelligence (cognitive ability), the transition agility test (also known as the butterfly test) involves the rapid change from forward to backward skating without and with the disc guide tested. In addition, the slalom test ultimately reveals the strengths and weaknesses in stick handling, as does the speed and balance test with the many changes of direction in a small space.

Worldwide unique On-Ice Test Analysis

High-quality test data from the CHL, 42% of all tested players were first-round drafts, respectively 39% of all tested players now play in the NHL and these results form the basis of the benchmark for calculating the SISM TestingIndex.

Since 2015, over 3,000 players in Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia, Austria, Russia and Kazakhstan have been tested by SISM Hockey, and more than 42,000 test data have been incorporated into a wide variety of analyses.

The test analyzes are very meaningful because a minimum of 75 players per age group have already been tested and therefore a comparison value and the target realistically reflect.

The targets created by SISM Hockey for 7 to 18 year old players show a marginal average deviation of only 0.07%, confirming that these targets are realistic and that these targets should be worked towards in every age group. These are very ambitious goals that are currently only being achieved by exceptional talent. The goal is to introduce the players to the respective requirements according to their age group. As a result, the tested players also develop self-motivation to achieve their goals and get closer to the target in the next tests.

With Simon Edvinsson 1#6, Fabian Lysell 1#21 both from Frölunda Gothenburg and Daniil Chayka 2#38 from CSKA Moscow, these top players already completed our ice hockey test as juniors with top results. We’re not surprised that these players were drafted at such high prices. With Janis Moser, Brian Zanetti and Simon Knak, Swiss players were drafted again after 2019. We are pleased that Brian and Simon, two players, were drafted who have already completed our on-ice test several times and took part in our Power Skating Camp in Arosa.
